Bajos del Toro Costa Rica – Nature Immersion!

Spend 5 days in the mountains of Costa Rica at the Bajos del Toro Rooms/Lodge.  Rustic lodging for up to 4 people (2 queen beds), 3 meals a day and activities such as horseback riding and fishing are included in the package. 

Bajos del Toro Costa Rica is in the Central Highland area next to the Juan Castro Blanco National Park. Also, located between Poas and Rincon de la Vieja, only 90 minutes from San Jose. This area offers visitors a chance to explore a relatively unknown part of Costa Rica.

Also, this tropical rainforest area is also famous for its beautiful rivers, pools, and waterfalls. This area has unique and intriguing eco-systems distinct from other parts of Costa Rica. This secret gem of an area is close to the capital and fairly easy to get to! 

Poas Volcano –Bajos del Toro Costa Rica Poas Volcano One of the Largest Volcano Craters in the World!

Bordering Bajos del Toro is the spectacular Poas Volcano – one of the largest volcano craters in the world!  Poas is a very active volcano with regular geyser activity.  Visitors have a chance to look down into the crater’s 1000 feet deep abyss. The air is heavy with the smell of sulfur and surrounding plant life. This is a result of the acid rain that is caused by the volcanic activity. The area surrounding the actual crater is full of unique and plentiful animals and plant life! Almost eighty different species of birds live in the area! It’s truly a hummingbird paradise!

Juan Castro National Park and Bosque de Paz Biological Reserve

Juan Castro National Park borders the Bajos del Tor area is a birding paradise! Quetzals, hawks and many other varieties of unique and beautiful birds seen here. In addition to birds, you can see jungle cats, monkeys, and coatis!  The extensive trail system offered by the National Park is another helpful resource. This makes exploring this rugged area much easier! The park is covered in dense vegetation and foliage. Some species include exotic hardwoods, cypress, and oaks, as well as many different plants – including wild orchids!  Local history suggests that this might have been an ancient meeting place for traveling tribes.  At an elevation of over 7000 feet, the hiking can be challenging, but well worth the effort!

In the Bajos del Toro area you will find one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Costa Rica – the Catarata del Toro. This amazing waterfall offers numerous opportunities for great hiking and exploring!   The largest waterfall in Costa Rica, the water spills nearly three hundred feet into an extinct volcanic crater.   There are trails that offer you high vantage points. You can also take a more challenging hike down to the bottom of this beautiful waterfall.  Along the way, you will be able to spot many of the beautiful butterflies, tropical birds and lush plants of the area. Another attraction, the unique rock formations that were formed by the volcano. In addition to the great trails, there is a famous waterfall rappel that runs alongside the falling water. This is perfect for those who like a little extra adrenaline rush!

Bajos del Toro Costa Rica Tesoro EscondidoCatarata Tesoro Escondido (Hidden Treasure Waterfall) 

Another attraction is the Catarata Tesoro Escondido.This waterfall is a well-kept secret in Costa Rica. Not many by foreigners know about it! Only recently was this area discovered as a favorite spot for locals. In fact, it recently opened to the public. Tesoro Escondido Waterfall has one of the most stunning waterfalls you can imagine! This waterfall has a unique, brilliant blue color, similar to Rio Celeste River. The water is simply magical! Take a trip here to explore the nature, beautiful mountains and amazing scenery. Auction items must be purchased at time of winning.  If auction item is not paid for in full within 30 minutes the next highest bidder will become the winner of the item.  Items that are not certificates must be picked up at the Tour of Champions event on Sunday, February 17 by 5pm or have a written confirmation by the winner on a time and date they will be picked up.  Processing fee/ shipping cost will be the responsibility of the winner.
